Key Practical Information

We believe that choosing live-in care should feel clear, informed, and free from surprises. This page sets out the key practical and cost related information about our service in plain English, so you know what to expect before making any decisions.

If anything here is unclear, please contact us, we’re always happy to explain.

How our live-in care service works

Live-in care means that a carefully matched carer lives in your loved one’s home and provides one-to-one support tailored to their needs. This can include personal care, companionship, meal preparation, household support, medication prompting, accompaniment to appointments, and other day-to-day assistance as required.

Every care arrangement is individual, and final details are always confirmed with you before care begins.

What determines the cost?

Live-in care is charged on a weekly basis, with fees payable in advance.

The weekly cost will depend on factors such as:

  • The level of care required
  • Any specific experience or skills needed
  • Location
  • Start date and timing

You will always be given a clear weekly cost before care starts.

Bank holidays

Care provided on UK bank holidays is charged at double the standard daily rate, in line with industry standards. This reflects the fact that carers are working on nationally recognised holidays. We always aim to let families know about this as early as possible, so it can be taken into account when planning care.

Food and accommodation for the carer

As part of live-in care:

  • Carers require access to suitable food and refreshments while living in the home. Many families enjoy sharing meals with their carer, in which case the carer’s food can be included in the weekly shopping. If you prefer a different arrangement, we can discuss what will work best for you and provide  estimated costs.
  • The carer will require a private bedroom, access to bathroom and laundry facilities, and a reliable wi-fi connection.

This is standard practice across live-in care services and helps ensure carers are comfortable, happy, and able to provide consistent, high-quality support.

Travel costs

In some situations, travel costs may apply, for example:

  • When a carer is travelling a long distance to start care
  • For certain rota or short-notice arrangements

Any applicable travel costs will be discussed with you in advance.

Trial periods and minimum care duration

Peace of Mind:  Most families start with a 14-day trial. This allows your loved one to adjust to a new routine without a long-term commitment.

Our minimum charge is seven days, after which you only pay for the care you receive. There are no long-term tie-ins.

Matching and equality

We match carers based on the specific clinical needs and personality of your loved one. To ensure the highest standards of care and compliance with UK equality laws, we do not filter or select carers based on race, religion, or other protected characteristics. Our focus is entirely on finding the best professional skill set for your family.
