The card itself can be preloaded with a chosen amount, allowing them to make everyday purchases. Caregivers, however, have control through a dedicated app. Here, they can set spending limits, restrict certain features like cashpoint withdrawals, and receive real-time notifications for every transaction. This transparency fosters peace of mind for both the caregiver and the individual with dementia.

It’s important to note that Sibstar is not a replacement for a traditional bank account. It’s designed for managing everyday spending, not holding large sums of money. Additionally, unlike children’s prepaid cards, Sibstar caters specifically to adults, offering more granular control over spending habits.

Getting started with Sibstar is simple. Simply download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, sign up, and follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to provide some identification documents for verification. If a Lasting Power of Attorney is in place for the individual with dementia, that document will also be required. Once approved, a Sibstar card will be mailed to you within 7-10 business days.
