The Cinnamon Trust: A Legacy of Love and Support for Pets and Their Owners
We at The Live In Care Company were deeply moved by our recent conversation with Kyle from The Cinnamon Trust on The Care Cast podcast. This remarkable charity is celebrating its 40th anniversary, a testament to the enduring vision of its founder, Averil Jarvis, and the countless lives it has touched. We were saddened to learn of Averil’s passing, but her legacy of compassion and care will undoubtedly continue to inspire and guide the Trust’s work.

The Cinnamon Trust is the national charity dedicated to supporting older and terminally ill individuals and their beloved pets. They understand the profound bond between humans and animals, recognising that pets provide not only companionship but also a sense of purpose, often serving as someone’s only family. As Kyle explained, Averil Jarvis founded the Trust after witnessing first hand the heart breaking reality of individuals forced to part with their pets due to health issues. Determined to prevent such unnecessary heartbreak, she began her mission from her kitchen table, and The Cinnamon Trust has blossomed into a nationwide network of support.
For 40 years, The Cinnamon Trust has been a lifeline for pet owners facing challenges. Their incredible team of volunteers provides a range of services, including dog walking, transportation to vet appointments, assistance with tasks like changing litter trays, and even specialised care for animals like companion llamas! They strive to be adaptable, understanding that each individual’s needs are unique. The Trust’s goal is simple: to ensure that people can stay with their pets for as long as possible, improving their quality of life and preventing the devastating loss of a cherished companion.
One of the most crucial services offered by The Cinnamon Trust is their Pet Profiling service. This program provides peace of mind for individuals who may not have family or friends to care for their pets should they become unable to. The Trust will step in, taking ownership of the pet and ensuring they are loved and cared for in a forever home, either with a long-term foster volunteer or at one of their sanctuaries. This safety net offers immeasurable comfort to pet owners facing uncertain futures.
Kyle shared a touching story about a terminally ill woman named Liz and her beloved horse, Luca. Liz’s dedication to Luca gave her strength throughout her illness. The Cinnamon Trust facilitated a final, heart-wrenching goodbye between Liz and Luca at the hospice, a testament to the Trust’s commitment to honouring the human-animal bond.
The Cinnamon Trust also provides support for those grieving the loss of a pet or those who, for various reasons, are unable to have pets of their own. Volunteering with the Trust offers a way to experience the joy of animal companionship and give back to the community.
The Cinnamon Trust relies entirely on donations and fundraising to continue its vital work. They encourage everyone to participate in their “40 for 40” campaign, aiming to raise £40 for 40 years of service. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every contribution makes a difference.
