The Live-in Care Company

Phillipa S

I was originally a team leader in a nursing home but I found the environment to be very busy and I did not have time to find out if the residents were happy.

I also do not have time to offer them one-to-one care, which is something I find incredibly rewarding and important with live-in care. I think I am a very giving person and at one point in my life I took in the homeless into my home, since it was a large enough house, and I helped them to get suitable longer-term accommodation with the help of social services.

My interests include gardening, playing the piano and guitar and sewing. I can also speak French and German since I spent much of my time in France and I lived in Germany for 12 years.

Phillipa has worked as a carer for the last 14 years. She aims to offer the best quality and most professional care that she can to her clients and their families. She wants to enable them to continue their life in their home environment whilst supporting them to do this. She has experience with caring for people with Parkinson’s, Dementia, Stroke and many other types of care needs.
She spent 8 years working in a mental health unit which has provided her with the skills and knowledge to work and care for clients who have challenging behaviour. The work requires a caring, considerate attitude and one where patience is key in order to establish trust and a successful working relationship.
Phillipa has been working as a live-in carer for the last 5 years and this has brought her huge satisfaction. She says that her aim is to ensure that the happiness of her clients is top priority and therefore she adapts her approach as the needs of her client change. She wants to work with a long-term client who shall can build a strong relationship with and enhance his or her quality of life.
“Pippa became our live-in carer four weeks ago and has made an immediate impression on us. She is extremely thorough and prides herself on leaving nothing to chance. She is also a brilliant cook and baker and ensures we have healthy home cooked meals. Nothing is too much trouble and she is very patient with us. We really feel very lucky to have met her. She has a warm personality and has become a valued friend.”- Clients

Phillipa has up-to-date mandatory training in many aspects of care including an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Adult Care). She loves to stay up to date with training and continuing to improve on skills. She has experience with using a wide variety of moving and handling equipment such as wheelchairs, hoists, slide sheets and walking frames. I have also cared for clients who have catheters and stoma bags.

“Her handovers were really thorough. It was good for me as it meant I could keep track of his deterioration in health even when I wasn’t always there.”- Wife of Client
